High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) interconnectors are revolutionising global energy systems - creating a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable electricity network. By enabling the seamless transfer of power across borders, HVDC technology helps balance supply and demand, integrate renewable energy sources, and reduce system costs while supporting global decarbonisation targets.

The market outlook is strong, with the global HVDC sector expected to grow from £19 billion in 2025 to £52 billion by 2035. In Europe alone, interconnector capacity is set to expand to 136 GW by 2030, strengthening cross-border cooperation and energy security.

However, this rapid growth brings challenges. Supply chain constraints, long lead times, and competition for critical components and skilled labour present significant risks to delivery. Managing these pressures will require strategic planning, collaboration, and innovation across the industry.
