Challenge
Delivering a new capability within a live operational naval base posed significant logistical, security and programme challenges. The site also contained protected Grade II Listed structures that required sensitive integration into the new development, ensuring compliance with heritage regulations while maintaining operational continuity for the Royal Navy.
Solution
G&T provided Cost Management, Project Management and Construction Management services, from early planning through to completion. Our team led the coordination of stakeholders, mitigated risks associated with construction in a live military environment, and oversaw the integration of heritage assets into the new facility. Our proactive approach ensured smooth collaboration between design, conservation and operational teams.
Outcome
The facility was successfully delivered to the Royal Navy’s Carrier Force on time and within budget. The final development achieved carbon neutral status and preserved the historic fabric of the site, demonstrating that modern defence infrastructure can coexist with heritage conservation and sustainable design.
