St James Quarter will transform the east end of Edinburgh into a thriving community for people to live, dine, shop and play. It is one of the largest regeneration schemes currently underway in the UK.

This new district aims to create a destination for the future and strengthen the city’s global standing by offering world-class retail, hospitality, leisure and residential.

The new 1,700,000 sq ft mixed-use development will include 80 new brands, and an enticing mix of restaurant and bars, 152 new homes, a 244 bedroom 5* hotel, multi-screen cinema, nine event spaces and 1,600 car parking spaces as well as the restoration of the historic St Andrews House and 27-31 James Craig Walk.

The historic surroundings of the development have required that the team deliver a building of exceptional quality. The context of the building within the existing vernacular has meant that the planning constraints of a prescriptive nature required the extensive use of natural materials.

To achieve this level of quality within the client’s budget, G&T worked alongside the design team and contractors to deliver innovative construction technologies at a cost effective price.
