Unlocking Europe's renewable energy grid

HVDC links and interconnectors play a pivotal role in enhancing Europe’s renewable energy grid by facilitating cross-border energy transmission. These systems enable the efficient sharing of surplus renewable power, improving both energy security and sustainability.

Expanding interconnector capacity supports the transition away from fossil fuels, while addressing economic, technical and regulatory challenges. Despite supply chain constraints and rising demand, continued innovation and investment in HVDC technology are critical for Europe’s clean energy future and the long-term stability of its power grid.
